Bookshop Sales Manager 
Loose Joints is an award-winning independent publisher recognised internationally for contemporary and innovative photographic book publishing.

We are seeking an experienced, highly organised and proactive Freelance Bookshop Sales Manager who will play an integral role in expanding and strengthening our global bookshop sales network. Working closely with our Directors and sales team, you will help shape the commercial growth of our publishing programme and maintain trusted relationships with our partners worldwide.

This consultancy requires a confident communicator with strong organisational skills, commercial awareness, and the ability to work autonomously while remaining aligned with the wider team. The consultant will operate on a flexible freelance basis, with approximately twelve days per month allocated according to workflow and seasonal demand. This is supported by a baseline monthly retainer, with additional quarterly commission tied to bookshop sales performance.

The role may be based remotely with quarterly visits to our Marseille offices, or from our Marseille studio.



Key responsibilities include:

Sales strategy and outreach:
• Identifying and securing new bookshop and retail sales opportunities
• Developing and refining sales strategies with the Directors
• Tracking market trends and competitor activity to inform decision-making
• Setting, monitoring and reporting on sales targets

Account management and client relations:
• Strengthening and maintaining relationships with existing bookshop partners and key accounts
• Responding promptly and professionally to sales enquiries and converting them into confirmed orders
• Supporting book launches, events and promotional initiatives
• Representing Loose Joints at selected industry events, including major fairs such as Paris Photo when required

Sales operations and coordination:
• Coordinating order processing, shipping and fulfilment with the internal team
• Overseeing credit control and payment follow-up with Directors
• Maintaining accurate documentation, spreadsheets and sales tracking
• Staying informed on publishing, art book distribution and photobook developments



About you:

• Minimum three years of experience in publishing, sales, bookselling, distribution, or a comparable role within the arts
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence in outreach, negotiation and account management
• Highly organised, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple workflows with shifting priorities
• Comfortable working independently, making informed decisions and proactively solving problems
• Strong proficiency with office software such as Excel or Google Suite. Experience with CRM or sales platforms is advantageous
• Knowledge of contemporary photography, art books or the cultural landscape is a strong plus
• Bilingual English/French is beneficial, but not required. This is an English-speaking role.

Contract structure and remuneration:

• Freelance consultancy structured around approximately 12 flexible days per month, allocated according to demand with baseline monthly retainer paid against these allocated days
• Additional quarterly commission based on net paid bookshop sales secured
• Starting date: January 2026
